Meet Azul Dario: Sayulita’s DJ, Music Producer & Community Connector

From the soccer field to the DJ booth, Azul Dario’s journey is anything but ordinary. Since moving to Sayulita in 2016, he’s built a reputation as one of the town’s most versatile and community-minded artists—bringing people together through music, events, and creative collaborations. In this interview, he shares his story, his passion for connecting with others, and his vision for Sayulita’s music scene.

Let’s Start with You…

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what brought you to Sayulita?
I had visited Sayulita several times before moving here, but never imagined I’d end up living in this magical place. That all changed in November 2016 when I got the opportunity to work at a bar in town—my adventure began. From the start, I set clear goals:

  • Play my DJ sets in every bar in town
  • Promote my hip-hop project
  • Collaborate with international artists
  • Learn English
  • Organize my own events
  • Start my own business as a DJ, music producer, and audio engineer

What inspired you to start this business here?
Seeing friends and colleagues making a living from their art inspired me deeply. Sayulita has a unique energy that blends talent, health, community, and opportunity—everything an artist could ask for.

Something most people don’t know about your journey:
I was a professional soccer player in the second division. At 13, I started doing graffiti, which led to breakdancing, rap, and eventually DJing. My dad was a programming teacher, so I had early access to a computer. At 14, I found a CD with music production software and taught myself to use it. At 23, I finished university and decided to dedicate my life to music.

About Your Business

What makes your business unique in Sayulita?
I create custom musical experiences for each client. My background as an audio engineer and music producer allows me to deliver exceptional sound quality and read the key moments of an event perfectly.

How would you describe the vibe of your service?
Authenticity, calm, and connection. I focus on clear communication and strong musical intuition so my clients feel their event is in the best hands.

Is there an experience close to your heart?
Creating authentic moments where music truly connects with people—that’s what I love most.

Community Connection

What does being part of the Sayulita community mean to you?
It’s a privilege to be surrounded by passionate friends who believe in their talents and share them freely.

Do you collaborate with local artisans, organizations, or causes?
Yes! I organize @inspir_acción, a monthly original music event running for over two and a half years, thanks to amazing community support. It’s open to all genres and encourages artists to share their own work.

How does your business give back to the community?
A portion of my income funds the @inspir_acción event. I also DJ for community events like Trashion Fashion and aim to create more spaces for local talent to shine.

Personal & Fun

Favorite morning in Sayulita:
Enjoying a lactose-free latte by the beach stands, writing, and soaking in the paradise I call home.

Song, aroma, or memory that captures Sayulita:
The humidity from July to October, the seasonal skies, the warm ocean, and eating a cold coconut instantly take me to Sayulita.

Looking Ahead

What’s next?
Opening a recording studio and rehearsal rooms for musicians and DJs, and expanding the @inspir_acción event—our next edition in October will be something special.
