Meet Eliza Barry: The Voice Behind La La Liz & Sayulita’s Evolving Music Scene
In a town known for its rhythm and energy, music is at the heart of Sayulita’s spirit—and Eliza Barry is helping shape that sound. As a singer, songwriter, and performer, Eliza brings a unique blend of elegance and edge to every stage she steps onto. Through her band La La Liz and her growing presence both locally and internationally, she’s creating spaces for connection, celebration, and community through music.
We sat down with Eliza to learn more about her journey, her inspiration, and how Sayulita continues to influence her sound.
Let’s Start with You…
Can you tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to Sayulita?
I am a singer/songwriter with a deep passion for music, which has shaped both my emotional and professional growth. I hold a degree in music, majoring in Jazz & Contemporary Voice, with a minor in Classical Voice. I am drawn to Sayulita’s lively music scene, nature walks, and strong, neighborly community.
What inspired you to start this business here?
Wherever I am, performing is something that grounds me. Starting my band, La La Liz, has created a weekly space for dancing, connection, and a supportive crowd.
What’s something most people don’t know about your story or journey?
I served tables for many years and only sang in talent competitions or wrote songs behind closed doors. It took a lot to push myself to quit my restaurant jobs and trust the process of pursuing music full time.
About the Business
What makes your business unique in Sayulita?
My music services are led by delicate-to-strong female vocals and feature an eclectic range of repertoire, making them perfect for events ranging from private dinners to wedding dance parties.
How would you describe the vibe or spirit of your music?
Elegant to funky fresh.
Is there a moment or experience that’s especially meaningful to you?
Being featured in the Sand & Strings Music Festival here in Sayulita, as well as playing shows this year with my solo project in Europe for a growing international audience.
Community Connection
What does being part of the Sayulita community mean to you?
It’s beautiful being part of this community. A tight-knit community means always remembering to say hello, knowing your neighbors, and making an effort to consume consciously in ways that support local.
Do you collaborate with any local organizations or causes?
Yes! I have performed multiple times at events for Pro Sayulita, a Mexican nonprofit organization supporting infrastructure, safety, and environmental projects in Sayulita.
How do you see your work giving back to Sayulita?
As a band that started in Sayulita, we strive to bring more awareness to the growing music scene here, especially while performing outside of town.
Personal + Fun
What’s your favorite way to spend a morning in Sayulita?
Coffee, family, and conversation — preferably outside in nature.
What’s one memory that captures Sayulita for you?
Writing my new single, “Boys & Beauty,” during walks along the path to Malpaso Beach.
Community shoutout:
Mexicolate! I drink their agua de cacao almost every day.
Looking Forward
What’s next for you and your business?
Saving up to go on tour, playing more music festivals, and serenading people during their most memorable moments.
Any upcoming events or new offerings?
I’ve recently started a teaching studio here in Sayulita offering individual and group classes in beginner piano and voice. I also plan on hosting more backyard original music sessions this season, featuring songs by myself and other professional local musicians. Follow me for details!
