Sayulita Life’s March Donation: Jaibitos Little League Bus Fundraiser
At Sayulita Life, we believe that supporting the community that supports us is one of the most important things we can do. Each month, Sayulita Life donates $5,000 pesos to a local initiative through our Sayulita Life Gives Back program.
This month’s donation supports an incredible effort to help the Jaibitos Little League Sayulita raise funds for a bus that will transport young players to their games throughout the region. The fundraiser is organized by a dedicated group of expats who have been inspired by the work of the team’s coach, Pedro Navarro, and the impact the program has on local youth.
Below, we spoke with the organizers about the team, the fundraiser, and why community support matters so much.
About the Fundraiser & Organizers
Who organized the fundraiser and what inspired it?
We are a group of expats, Canadians and Americans, who are friends with the coach Pedro Navarro of the Jaibitos Little League Sayulita. Pedro’s enthusiasm and care for these kids inspired us to do all we could to help him. He works tirelessly to support the team.
The Jaibitos are always in need of equipment, coaching support, and transportation to and from out-of-town games.
Why is supporting this team important to you?
The children are the future of Sayulita. Even though many members of the expat community only live here part of the year, Sayulita is still very much our home.
Helping give local kids the opportunity to be part of a team that builds discipline, teamwork, and confidence is incredibly important to us.
Why is a bus the biggest need right now?
After speaking with Pedro, it became clear that one of the biggest challenges the team faces is transportation. Many parents are not in a position to provide reliable transportation to away games.
A team bus would allow the kids to travel safely and consistently to games and tournaments.
Is this the first fundraiser?
No — this is the second annual Jaibitos Golf Fundraiser, and we hope it will become a long-standing community tradition.
About the Team
What makes the Jaibitos team special?
Founded in 2016, Jaibitos of Sayulita is a community baseball team focused on developing young athletes ages 5 to 14.
The program encourages physical activity, teamwork, and personal development through sports while helping shape strong and confident young members of the community.

How do players currently travel to games?
Currently, parents split the cost of round-trip taxi vans for away games, which can be expensive for many families.
How far do they travel?
The team plays in the Liga Tepic Nayarit and travels throughout northern Nayarit. Many away games require over three hours of travel one way, including destinations such as:
• Santa María del Oro
• Amatlán de Cañas
• Tepic
• Tuxpan
What other challenges does the team face?
Thanks to generous donations from the Canadian expat community, the team currently has plenty of baseball equipment.
However, uniforms for the 2025-2026 season have not yet been purchased due to lack of funds, and because kids grow quickly, baseball shoes are always needed.
About the Fundraiser
What can people expect at the event?
Participants will enjoy 18 holes of golf along with fun activities at several tee boxes. There will be prizes for:
• Longest drive
• Closest to the pin
• Lowest scoring team
• The “Most Honest Team”
Throughout the tournament, players can purchase drinks, Mulligans, and participate in other activities.
The event will also feature a silent auction with fantastic prizes donated by local businesses and members of the expat community.
How has the community responded?
The response has been incredible. Many businesses and individuals have donated prizes, money, and time to help make the fundraiser possible.
Tee sponsorships are nearly sold out, local businesses are displaying posters, and several teams are already forming to participate in the tournament.
How can people support if they can’t attend?
Those who cannot attend can still support the fundraiser by donating through the Eventbrite donation page.

The Impact of a Bus
How would a bus change things for the team?
Having a team bus would make baseball accessible to many more children in Sayulita. Right now, some families simply cannot afford the transportation costs required for away games.
Is there a specific bus in mind yet?
Not yet. The organizers anticipate that raising enough money may take several years, but this fundraiser is an important first step.
They hope the golf tournament will become an annual event that continues building toward this goal.
What would community support mean for the team?
Community support would help ensure the long-term sustainability of the team while giving the players a sense of pride knowing the entire community stands behind them.
Organizers also hope that the Jaibos men’s team will mentor these young athletes, as many of the kids admire and look up to them.
Final Thoughts
The organizers believe this is one of the most meaningful ways the community can support Sayulita’s future.
Investing time and resources into the children of Sayulita helps shape the next generation and strengthens the entire community.
