Sayulita Life’s $5,000 June Donation Goes to CVIS Art Program

Sayulita Life is proud to continue its monthly commitment to supporting the local community with a $5,000 peso donation for June going to the Art Program at Costa Verde International School (CVIS). CVIS is known for its values-driven, eco-conscious approach to education—and the arts play a big role in shaping the creativity and confidence of its students. We spoke with the CVIS Art Instructor to learn more about the program and how this donation will help continue inspiring young artists.

About the CVIS Art Program

Can you tell us about the CVIS Art Program and what it offers students?

The CVIS Art Program gives students an opportunity to explore several different mediums in fine art with an introduction to color theory and the 7 elements of art.

Why is art education important at CVIS?

Looking back, I don’t think anyone would say middle school was one of the easiest times of their lives. Art provides teens and preteens an avenue for self-expression during a challenging time, helping them work through emotions and build confidence.

What kinds of projects or mediums do students get to explore through the program?

We are committed to providing fine-art grade materials rather than supplies meant for crafts or younger students. Students are taught how to care for and respect materials, and the importance of choosing the right medium for each project. Common materials include:

  • Stretched canvas
  • Acrylic and watercolor paints
  • Multimedia paper
  • Clay
  • Sketch paper and pencils

How often do students participate in art classes, and what does a typical session look like?

Secundaria students have fine art class twice per week and typically complete at least 25 projects per year. Each year, we also select an indigenous or local Mexican art form to study and recreate—such as printmaking, Alebrijes, or Huichol bead art.

Impact of Sayulita Life’s Donation

How will Sayulita Life’s donation support the art program this year?

This generous donation will help fund fine art materials, upgrades to the art room, and even art-inspired field trips.

What kinds of materials or opportunities will this contribution help provide?

It will allow students to explore a wider variety of artistic mediums and provide the resources they need to create something truly meaningful and personal.

What does local business support mean to CVIS and its creative programs?

I love bringing students to local galleries where artists or shop owners explain the history, process, and cultural significance of the artwork. If you’re a local business owner interested in connecting with our secundaria students, please reach out via email at info@colegiocostaverde.com.

Student Involvement

How do students respond to the art program? Do you have any standout moments or stories?

Every year, the students hold an art exhibition where they display and sell their work and share what the art program means to them. If you see a secundaria student around town, ask them about the program—they love to talk about it!

In what ways does art help students grow academically or personally?

Art builds self-confidence, fosters creativity, and helps students recognize their own unique abilities. It also enhances critical thinking and problem-solving skills—benefits that carry over into all academic areas.

Looking Ahead

Are there any upcoming projects or goals for the art program?

Yes! Students recently completed commissioned pet portraits for members of the local community and did an amazing job. If you’d like a portrait of your pet created by one of our students, please contact the school and direct your inquiry to Jesi.

How can other members of the community support the arts at CVIS?

You can support the program by:

  • Attending the annual student art exhibition
  • Donating art supplies or funds
  • Sharing your knowledge as a guest speaker or collaborator

Donations can be made in person at the school or online at www.colegiocostaverde.com/ways-to-give.
