SayuParke: Where Sayulita’s Families Come Together

This month, Sayulita Life is proud to support SayuParke, our community’s beloved park where children play, families gather, and memories are made. We sat down with Xochil, a member of the SayuParke committee, to learn more about how the park began, what it means to Sayulita, and how community donations help keep it thriving.

1. For those who might not know, can you share what SayuParke is and how it began?
SayuParke is the heart of our community — a place where Sayulita’s kids can play safely, families can gather, and friendships are formed. It all started almost nine years ago when local parents dreamed of creating a safe, welcoming space for their children. With incredible teamwork and community spirit, SayuParke was born.

2. What inspired the creation of the park, and what was the community’s role in making it happen?
The inspiration came from a simple need: parents wanted a safe place for their kids to run, climb, and just be children. The beauty is that it wasn’t one person’s idea — it was a collective dream. Families, neighbors, and volunteers rolled up their sleeves, donated time, money, and energy, and made it happen together.

3. What’s the park’s mission or main goal for the children and families of Sayulita?
Our mission is to create a space where kids can be kids — laughing, playing, exploring — while families connect, relax, and build community. SayuParke is about joy, safety, and togetherness.

4. How has SayuParke impacted the local community since it opened?
The impact has been huge. Every day you can see children running barefoot, playing on the swings, and sharing laughter. For many kids, it’s the highlight of their day. Parents get to meet, chat, and unwind while knowing their little ones are safe. It has truly become a hub of community life.

5. What are some of the most popular activities or areas of the park?
The playsets are always buzzing — toddlers discovering slides for the first time and older kids climbing and swinging high. Families also love the picnic tables, where moms and dads gather with snacks, share stories, and enjoy the shade. It’s a mix of play and connection.

6. Do you have a favorite memory or moment at the park that captures its spirit?
One of my favorite moments was when we inaugurated our new playset. The entire community came out — there were piñatas, music, and kids’ laughter everywhere. It was a celebration not just of the playset, but of what we can achieve together as a community.

7. What does it take to maintain the park and keep it safe, clean, and welcoming?
A lot of love, dedication, and about 3,000–4,000 pesos each month. That covers cleaning, small repairs, and basic upkeep. It may not sound like much, but it makes a big difference in keeping the park safe and inviting.

8. Who helps make it all happen — are there volunteers, staff, or local sponsors involved?
SayuParke is run by a small but passionate committee of about four members. We’re volunteers who love our community, and we keep the park running thanks to local support and donations. It really is a labor of love.

9. What are some of the challenges you face in running and maintaining SayuParke?
The biggest challenge is funding. We don’t receive any government support, so every peso comes from donations and the generosity of the community. Balancing costs and needs is always tough, but we do it because the park is worth it.

10. How will Sayulita Life’s September donation be used?
This donation will go toward repairing and replacing our front gate, which has been broken. It may sound simple, but a safe, welcoming entrance makes a big difference for families.

11. Why are community donations like this so important for the park’s sustainability?
Without donations, there would be no SayuParke. They are what keep the lights on, the playsets safe, and the grounds clean. Every contribution, big or small, helps us keep the park open for the children of Sayulita.

12. Are there any upcoming projects, events, or improvements planned for the park?
Yes! We’re planning a fundraiser in the next few months to continue improving the park. We’d love to add more shade, more seating, and even more play equipment.

13. How do you envision SayuParke in the next 5–10 years?
I imagine a bigger, greener, shadier park with more bathrooms, more play areas, and even better facilities. A place where Sayulita’s children grow up and always feel at home.

14. How can locals and visitors support SayuParke?
The best way is to join our Facebook group and connect with us. Whether you live here full-time or are just visiting, you can help keep the park thriving.

15. Is there a way for people to donate, volunteer, or sponsor specific areas or activities?
Absolutely! You can donate, volunteer, or even sponsor parts of the park directly through our Facebook page. Every little bit helps.

16. If you could tell the community one thing about SayuParke, what would it be?
SayuParke is where Sayulita comes together. It’s more than just a playground — it’s a place of laughter, connection, and community, where children grow up surrounded by love and joy.
