Its that time of year again. Sayulita Days! I guess you know you've been around Sayulita for a little while when the carnies call you out by name when passing their set-up area inside the ball field. This weekend through Tuesday night (the Big Night) are truly some of my favorite days of the year in Sayulita. The whole town celebrates and takes a breather during the high-season in order to dress up and let loose. I have been told by locals that on the 24th, you can really see who is married to who in Sayulita because ALL the husbands have to take their wives to the rodeo/carnival/concert. See you all there!

Que su tiempo de año nuevo. Dias del Sayulita! Supongo que usted sabe que ha estado alrededor de Sayulita por un tiempo cuando el trabajadores del carnival llamarlo por su nombre al pasar la configuración interior del beis. Este fin de semana a través de la noche del martes (el Noche Grande) son realmente algunos de mis días favoritos del año en Sayulita. Todo el pueblo celebra y tomarse un respiro durante la temporada alta con el fin de vestir y dejar suelto. Me han dicho por parte de los lugareños que el 24, usted puede realmente ver que está casado con quien en Sayulita, ya que en TODOS los esposos han de tener a sus esposas para el rodeo / carnaval / concierto. Sayulita Days!

Sayulita Days are here! The annual Sayulita fair opens this weekend and the town is expecting many visitors over the next week. The baseball field is full of rides and fair games now and is opened to the public starting Friday, February 20th. Most of the vendors located on the streets around the baseball park are set up and opened February 19th. Jesus Castro, a vendor who has been coming to the Sayulita Days fair for the last 20 years said this year he is hoping the road work at the entrance of Sayulita doesn't create traffic problems and parking issues with people coming to the fair and visiting Sayulita during this busy time.

Visitors in the area can expect to hear some noise at night with bands playing and dances happening at the entrance to town and in the ballpark. There will also be a parade on Tuesday February 24th and the crowning of the "Queen of Sayulita" will take place. Cockfights will be held Sat-Tues starting at 4:00PM on the Punta Mita Hwy and Calle Libertad. All in all it is a fun time of year to be in Sayulita and join in the festivities. The fairground will close next Friday February 27th and the fair vendors will start packing up next Saturday February 28th.

Los días de Sayulita

¡Los días de Sayulita ya llegaron! La feria anual empiece este fin de semana y el pueblo esta esperando muchos visitantes durante la próxima semana. El campo de béisbol esta lleno de juegos de la feria y abren al público el viernes 20 de febrero. La mayoría de los vendedores en el tianguis ubicado en las calles alrededor del campo de béisbol ya están listos y van a abrir para el día 19 de Febrero. Jesús Castro, un vendedor que tienen 20 anos viniendo a la feria de Sayulita dice que espera que la construcción en la calle entrando a Sayulita no cause problemas con trafico ni problemas con estacionamiento durante esta época en que va a haber mucha gente visitando Sayulita y la feria.
Visitantes en el area pueden esperar escuchar un poco de ruido en las noches con las bandas tocando y los bailes que van a haber. Habrá un desfile el martes 24 de Febrero y también la coronación de la "Reina de Sayulita". Los juegos en la feria cerrarán el próximo viernes, 27 de Febrero y los vendedores del tianguis se irán el próximo sábado, 28 de Febrero.

CPR, WATER SAFETY AND AED CLASS

(Friday, Feb 27, 10a-3p)

WHAT: Grupo Pro-Sayulita will offer a five-hour class on life saving skills, including CPR, water safety and AED (automated external defibrillator). The class will be taught in English by paramedics from Global Ambulance and participants will be fully certified by Global. Everyone should know these life saving skills!

WHEN: Friday, February 27, 10a-3p

WHERE: IGUANA AZUL RESTAURANT, Sayulita (Just before Don Pedros)

COST: This class, offering full certification, will be held only once so please take advantage of it. Cost of the class is $450ps. Each participant will receive a DVD and on-line manual, plus CPR and AED certification.

We need a headcount, so please call or email Mike Beck with your commitment to attend PRIOR to Feb 27.

Primeros Auxilios, Seguridad en el agua, y Clases de AED

Que: Grupo Pro Sayulita va a ofrecer una clase por 5 horas de habilidades para salvar vidas: CPR (primeros auxilios) seguridad en el agua, y AED (defibrilador externo automático) La clase se enseña en ingles por paramédicos de "Global Ambulance" y los participantes estarán certificados por Global. Todos deberían de saber estas habilidades para salvar vidas.

Cuando: El viernes, 27 de Febrero de las 10am hasta las 3pm

Donde: Restaurante Iguana Azul, Sayulita (poco antes de Don Pedro's)

Costo: Este clase, ofreciendo certificación completa, se ofrece esta sola vez así que aprovechen de esta oportunidad. El costo es de 450 pesos. Cada participante recibira un DVD y manual en Internet, mas certificación de CPR y AED.

Fishing Derby Results

Eight panga fishing boats entered the first annual Sayulita Grande Pescado fishing competition. This year was a dorado (mahi-mahi) competition held on Valentine's Day.   After a 6:30 a.m. captains meeting, the boats were launched and prepped for the 7a.m start. At five minutes to sevn the chaos began as teams scrambled. Four boats took off at the gun! The others got off the line a few moments later.

Team La Jolla Captained by Felix Cadena helmed to victory. His prize winning crew consisted of Sebastian "El Chileano", Fabian, Gustavo Dobler, and Victor Lopez "Nemo".   The winners were awarded a giant Jack Pot of 10,400 pesos! The city of Sayulita was also a huge winner with $5,600 pesos going into a fund set up by our local judge, Noe. Please contact him for details.

All in all, it was a great turnout.   We would also like to give a special shout out to "Big Tuna" who made the voyage from Punta de Mita for the chance to win.

By unanimous decision, next year's St. Valentine's Day Dorado Classic is on!!

Exito con Fishing Derby

Ocho pangas de pesca entraron el primer anual competición de Grande Pescado en Sayulita. Este ano fue un concurso de dorado el día de San Valentín. Después de una cita con los capitanes, las lanchas se botaron y se prepararon para el comienzo a las 7:00 de la mañana. A los 5 para las 7:00am el caos empezó y los equipos andaban a la rebatiña. ¡4 lanchas se botaron al disparo! Fue espectacular verlo. Las otras lanchas salieron un poco tarde, pero todo estuvo bien.

El equipo La Jolla con el capitán Felix Cadena estuvo al timón de ganar la victoria. El equipo ganador consistía de Sebastian "El Chileno", Fabian, Gustavo Dobler, y Victor Lopez "Nemo". Los ganadores se llevaron el premio de 10,400 pesos. El pueblo de Sayulita también salio ganador con 5,600 pesos que van para un fondo organizado por Noe. Favor de contactarlo por más detalles.

En general muchos acudieron a ver el concurso. Nos gustaría darle a "Big Tuna" un saludo quien hizo viaje de Punta De Mita para la oportunidad de ganar.

Por una decisión unánime el concurso de dorado en día de San Valentín es seguro para el próximo año. Gracias a todos.

3. Born in Sayulita? If not when did you first come to Sayulita Yes I was born here in Sayulita. My whole family comes from Sayulita.
3. Nació en Sayulita? Si, nací aquí en Sayuilta. Toda mi familia viene de Sayulita.

4. Education level: I only studied up to the 3rd year of primary school here in Sayulita. There was no secondary school here at that time and a lot of people didn't take the opportunity to continue studying out of town.
4. Nivel de educación: Solo estudie hasta el tercero de primaria aquí en Sayulita. No había una secundaria en Sayulita en aquel tiempo y muchos jóvenes no tuvieron la oportunidad de ir a estudiar fuera de Sayulita.

5. Family history & information: I live here in Sayulita with my wife and we have 3 children. I have 2 daughters ages 21 and 16 and 1 son age 19.

6. Employment/business history I've always been a fisherman and diver. I started working when I was 14 years old. I started out fishing and then started to dive for fish as well. There were not as many divers at that time. There are all kinds of fish in the waters off the coast of Sayultia. We catch everything from mahi mahi to lobsters.
6. Empleo/Negocio/Ocupación: Siempre he sido pescador y buzo. Empecé a trabajar a los 14 anos. Al principio solo pescaba y luego empece a bucear. No habia tantas personas que buceaban en aquel tiempo. Hay mucho diferentes tipos de peses en el agua por la costa de Sayulita. Pescamos todo de dorado hasta langostas.

7. One positive change you have seen in Sayulita?. The increase in tourism has been positive for everyone. There are more jobs for everyone and more opportunities and more money has come into town to improve the streets.
7. Algún cambio positivo que haya observado en Sayulita? El aumento de turismo ha sido positivo para todos. Hay mas empleos para todos y mas oportunidades y el pueblo tiene mas dinero para invertir en arreglar las calles.

8. One negative change you have seen in Sayulita? Some people have different opinions of what are negative and positive changes. I can't really think of anything that I can see that has been a negative change.
8. Algún cambio negativo que haya observado en Sayulita? Algunos tienen opiniones diferentes en cuanto que son cambios negativos y positivos. No puedo pensar en nada que puedo ver que ha sido un cambio negativo.

9. How do you imagine Sayulita in 10 years? I imagine Sayulita will be a much bigger town, there will be more tourism and more changes happening. I think there will be a very large American and foreign community and more opportunities for everybody.
9. Como imagina Sayulita en 10 anos? Me imagino que Sayulita sera un pueblo mucho mas grande y que habrá mas turismo y mas cambios. Creo que habrá una comunidad americana y extranjera muy grande en Sayulita en el futuro y que habrá mas oportunidades para todos.
