For the past six years, the Coco Copa Polo Tournament has brought together sport, community, and compassion to support Operation Smile Mexico. This global organization provides free, life-changing surgeries for children and adults born with cleft lip and palate conditions.

What began in Careyes in 2019 has now found its home at Tierra Tropical Polo Club in San Pancho, where the tournament has been hosted for the past four years, continuing to grow both in impact and in heart.

The Coco Copa was inspired by a deeply personal story. The founders’ daughter, Coco, was born with a cleft lip in 2014. They were fortunate to have access to proper medical care, but soon realized how many families around the world do not. This realization sparked a mission: to help provide dignified, accessible care for children who would otherwise go without.

Since its inception, Coco Copa has raised enough funds to support close to 120 surgeries, with last year’s event alone covering 60 life-changing operations. According to Operation Smile Mexico, more than 14,000 patients have been evaluated and over 7,400 free surgeries performed nationwide since the foundation began its work in Mexico.

Every three minutes, a child is born somewhere in the world with a cleft condition. Today, nearly five million people still live with untreated cleft conditions, facing lifelong challenges with eating, breathing, speaking, and social inclusion.

Last November, the Coco Copa team was invited to witness Operation Smile’s surgical mission in Guadalajara – observing the patient selection process, surgeries, and recoveries of 60 children. Seeing firsthand how donations directly transform lives reinforced why continuing to raise funds is so essential.
