Nierika: The Murals of Sayulita — A New Book Honors Our Living Open-Air Gallery

A new coffee table book by long-time locals Camilla Fuchs and Robert Sean Lewis (Rafiq) documents more than 145 murals and 65 artists who have turned Sayulita’s streets into an open-air gallery. 🖌️

Sayulita is a place that does not stay still.

It evolves on its walls, in its colors, in the hands of the artists who have turned its streets into an open-air gallery. From surf-town energy to deep Indigenous-rooted symbolism, art here is not decoration — it is language.

It is in this spirit that we are proud to announce the release of a new coffee table book:

Nierika: The Murals of Sayulita

The Meaning Behind the Name

Inspired by the Huichol concept of Nierika — the sacred act of “seeing” beyond the surface into other dimensions of life — this book invites readers to experience Sayulita not as a postcard, but as a living, breathing vision.

A Visual Archive of a Living Town

Across more than 145 murals created by over 65 artists, this work documents a cultural landscape that is constantly evolving, yet deeply rooted in place. Each mural becomes a doorway into the identity of a town shaped by Indigenous influence, coastal life, and a global community of creators.

This is not only documentation — it is interpretation.

The Hands Behind the Book

Expertly photographed by Camilla Fuchs and accompanied by vivid, informative captions by novelist Robert Sean Lewis (Rafiq), whose research brings context, story, and voice to the walls of Sayulita, this book — created by two long-term locals of the town — captures the textures, scale, and emotion of each mural with an artist’s eye for light and presence.

Together, image and text create something between archive and artwork — a book that reflects the same layered richness it seeks to preserve.

Now Available

Printed as a high-quality coffee table edition and available through Lulu Press, Nierika: The Murals of Sayulita is a unique release made for collectors, locals, artists, and anyone who has ever been moved by the visual spirit of this town.
