On April 5th, residents of Sayulita together with local police and Marina set up check-points at the two entrances of town, denying access to all non-residents in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Days prior, the Nayarit government requested all nationals to stay home during Semana Santa (spring break) and urged the citizens of Nayarit to deny services to anyone traveling during this time of emergency. Hundreds of cars have been denied access since the checkpoint was set up.
