This month Sayulita Life has decided to donate to a Sayulita Creative Arts Program called Celebrando el Ritmo, Creatividad y Arte en Movimiento. Sayulita Life’s donation will print T-shirts for all kids enrolled in the program. Artistic director Colleen Macomber discusses what the program is about, and how they are providing safe teaching and learning experiences to students during times of Covid.

“Celebrando el Ritmo is celebrating its 13th year in Riviera Nayarit. Although the 2020-2021 season is like no other, we are excited to still be offering classes to the students of Sayulita. During these difficult times of COVID-19, students need now more than ever high-quality arts education programs. With public schools closed, students are getting some virtual lessons but are really craving in-person learning.

Thanks to Michele at Centro Cultural Zumba, there is a perfect space to teach classes. The studio is open-aired, and students dance 1.5 meters apart. Everyone wears a mask, and there is enough space for 18 students in each class. The picture of one of the students, Daniella, exemplifies how much joy can still be had during these hard times. Celebrando el Ritmo is grateful to be sharing this gift to the community in Sayulita.

We are teaching 2 classes every Wednesday. The 2:30-3:30 p.m. class is for students ages 9-12 years old, and the 3:30-5:00 p.m. class is for 13 years and older. Please contact me, Colleen Macomber, Artistic Director, via WhatsApp at 322 109 0654 to obtain more information. Classes are FREE and open to the public. Space is limited, and classes are filling up fast!

This is also a year of firsts because Celebrando el Ritmo is now no longer affiliated with the program “Celebrate the Beat” in the U.S. Creative Arts Momentum is now a local program. In order to keep programming in Sayulita, we need to keep finding local donors like Sayulita Life. With the $5,000 peso community grant, t-shirts will be printed for the students.

We are still trying to reach their funding goal this year. If you would like to donate, please send us an email. Your donation is tax deductible in Canada, the US, and in Mexico!

Unfortunately, Celebrando el Ritmo will not be having a live performance this year due to the circumstances of the pandemic. However, be on the lookout for videos to go viral within our Sayulita Community! Please check out “Creative Arts Momentum” on Facebook for updates, and keep a lookout for the students to be dancing in the streets safely!”
