A Community Event funding Azul Sayu, A.C.

Now in its 4th year, Trashion Fashion Sayulita returns even stronger on May 17th.  Created by Flora Amor as a way of bringing the community together in a creative manner to raise awareness and funds for Sayulita’s recycling program operated by Azul Sayu, Trashion Fashion has now grown into an inspirational community event.  This year’s event will be hosted by Frente al Punto and sponsored by Archara Restaurant, Ally Cat Charters, Chaman Creative Kitchen, Sayulita Fit, Sayulita Dream Weddings, Sunset Soiree and Villa Valentin. Twenty-four teams of designers and models, including a team from Sayulitalife, will be creating reusable and sustainable clothing out of found objects and trash. This event is not to be missed!

Azul Sayu (A.S.) began our local recycling program five years ago, following the recommendations of a focus group organized by Groupo Pro Sayulita.  Currently, the program provides about 100 recycle bins in Sayulita and San Ignacio. The program partners with similar programs along the coast to reduce trash and to keep our jungles and oceans clean.  AS operates 6 days a week and focuses on working with restaurants and bars to separate recyclable items from trash; approximately 50% of the waste produced by these types of businesses can be recycled. AS also provides pick up services to various condominium and hotel projects in town and free recycle bins and pick up services to parks, schools and public spaces in Sayulita and San Ignacio.  In addition, AS provides twice weekly Punto Azules, which serve as free drop off locations for recycled items and points of community education. With three full-time workers, 2 very old vehicles and a private storage and sorting space in Sayulita, AS depends on local, community donation to continue its operation.
